The appeal of the exotic leather remains great. This certainly also applies to snakeskin, within that group the python plays an important role. In addition to clothing, snakeskin is widely used for accessories, which can consist of jewelry, bags, wallets, luxury stationery, but also covers for phones or tablets.
The legal trade of snakeskin requires strict documentation from all the export of the skins to the manufacture and sale of the finished product. Taxes are paid during every part of the process and this money goes to organizations that are actively involved in protecting protected species. In this way, money is raised to fight illegal trade, stop wildlife stealing, raise awareness of the problem and encourage countries to implement wildlife protection rules. Growing exotic skins according to CITES rules and when properly managed has a major impact on preserving the natural habitat of the snakes themselves. Not only does it create jobs, but it also supports the economy at various levels and areas where there is little other income.
At Van Oosterum Leder we follow and support the rules drawn up by CITES. We make sure that the hides we supply comply with these rules. All hides that we import are provided with the correct origin papers.
